| Jackson York, CEC, Executive Chef of the Edom Bakery & Grill, and Director of the East Texas Chapter, TCA was awarded
the 2010 Chef of the Year at 2010 Texas Chefs Convention held in
Beaumont, Texas on Saturday, July 17, 2010. Chef York was presented with
a medal and the Chef of the Year Trophy at the President's Ball in front of an audience of 150 Chefs & spouses. York is the first East Texas Chef to win this award. Congratulations Jackson!

Michele Brown - 2010 State Pastry Chef of the Year
|
 | Michele started her pastry career while in high school; major, theatre. Working at Deerfield’s Bakery, decided that brioche appealed to her more than Brecht and went on to Johnson & Wales University earning degrees in Pastry Arts / Foodservice Management serving as TA and Fellow and winning The Renshaw Cup. Her first professional culinary job was pastry chef at The Sheraton Palace Hotel where she learned she had a lot to learn! She moved on to NY volunteered at the James Beard House, worked at Restaurant Zanghi, the River Café, the Russian Tea Room, Rosemarie’s, Montrachet, Cucina / St. Michel and Tupelo Honey / Mill River Inn. To satisfy her desire to teach, became an adjunct instructor at Peter Kump’s, NYIT and Culinary Academy of LI and moderator CHEFTALK.COM. She opened her wedding cake business having an adventurous and profitable four-year run until life in Texas beckoned. She obtained an adjunct position on the faculty of Collin College, followed by a full-time professorship. Michele is grateful for the opportunity to help grow their pastry arts program and to support the TCA as board secretary working with professionals dedicated to supporting the culinary arts in Dallas.

1. The goal of the Cooking with "Luv" program is to increase the impact of charitable activities of TCA by partnering with Southwest Airlines. 2. Establish a method to quantify, refine and channel the efforts of our organization. 3. Showcase our leadership position within our communities. 4. Chefs Move to Schools Program
|
On June 4, 2010, Sharon Van Meter, TCA Community Outreach Chair, visited the White House where First Lady Michelle Obama addressed hundreds of chefs from around the country during "Let's Move!" event held on the south lawn of the White House. See story and pictures. The idea of "Let's Move" is to pair chefs with interested schools in your local commmunities. Chefs help the students learn where food comes from and helps students develop health habits. For more information go to website
