The regular monthly meeting of the East Texas Chapter, TCA was held on April 13, 2011 at H.A.M.M. in Tyler Texas. Attending: Jack Bretzke, CEC, AAC, Chris Smith, Harry Kancyr, and Sue Hunter Guests: Al Heinol, Melvin Guevara, Ed Santos, Sam Kennedy, Tracy Patterson, Abby Warnick, and Rick Neal Call to Order: Meeting was called to order at 3:25 pm. New Business: Jack Bretzke CEC, AAC gave an update on the State Convention in 2012 to be held in Tyler. We reviewed the First Annual Cupcake War that was held at the Taste of Tyler. We had six area high schools compete. The kids and the teachers did a great job. This was a big step in bringing the TCA and the TRA together. Director York and Bob Westbrook (President of TRA) worked very well together on trying to start a new working relationship between the two associations. Not to mention Mr. Westbrooks snappy taste in footwear. The Culinary Tourism Trail is coming up on May 12. It is being hosted by Texas Forest Trail. This has been put together to promote culinary tourism in East Texas and the East Texas Chapter of TCA will be in full attendance. There will be cooking demos throughout the day ending with a future demo from our very own Chef of the Year, Jackson York CEC. We reviewed the role our members play in our chapters growth. Chef Jackson and Chris Smith have been hitting the bricks to spread the word everywhere we go but we need all members to take part in promoting our chapter and the TCA. Chef jackson was not able to make the meeting. He was helping out a fellow chef in need. Chef Jackson has lead by example in showing us all that this is an industry where we need to back each other up and show that we are not just chefs, we are a family of culinarians. Adjournment: Motion was made to adjourn the meeting at 4:33 pm.
