The regular monthly meeting of the Golden Triangle Chapter, TCA was held on August 2, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Outpatient Pavilion Conference Room 1, hosted by Traci Henry.
Attending: Carly Andrews, Casey Gates CC, Traci Henry, Ewart Jones CEC, AAC, Rachel McGee, Ashley Pitts, Charles Duit, Mary Alice Sam, Crystal Lynch and Kimberley Wade.
Excused: Glenda Shaw
Call to Order: Director Casey Gates called the meeting to order at 3:40 pm.
Minutes: Copies of the minutes were handed out. There was a motion made by Charles Duit to approve the July minutes with corrections. The motion was seconded by Carly Andrews. Motion passed.
Treasurer's Report: The chapter is in sound financial condition. Carly Andrews was appointed as new Treasurer and will serve the rest of this term. Community Outreach: We had several awards given at the TCA Convention. These included: Chef of the Year, Traci Henry; Contributor of the Year, Carly Andrews; Purveyor of the Year, Crystal Lynch; Directors Award, Casey Gates; Junior Chef of the Year, Ashley Pitts. Membership Report: Our membership is currently at 48 and holding strong. We lost 2 members due to moving.
Old Business: Shooting for a Miracle - to discuss at next meeting. Chefs Delight - October 11, 2011. At next meeting duties will be split up and the pork entree was changed to beef. Cigar Night - August 5, 2011 to benefit the Seafarers Center. This is a quarterly event with 50 - 60 ppl $35 a ticket and this includes dinner, 3 cigars and liquor tastings. Taste of Some Other Place - August 16, 2011. Calder Woods and Saint Elizabeth will be participating. Certification - get with Traci for more information.
Convention Highlights: Icebreaker was the best that the convention has ever had. The TCA pulled together really good food and entertainment. Over 800 chefs were present. Chef Sam Cass (executive chef at the white house) discussed the chef move to school movement. Chef Andre did his Foie Gras demonstration. Alton Brown did a salt presentation. 1200 registrations at ACF this year - very profitable and hard to beat. The Academy Chefs Dinner was 11 courses and was delicious and the best one yet. The central region had a huge sweep on awards. Prostart-put on by the NRA. It is a national program for high school students interested in the culinary arts and restaurant management. Taylor Career Center is 1 out of 127 schools that compete in the regional conference. The Golden Triangle Chapter needs to be supportive of the program and Taylor Career Center. Casey Gates wants to be a mentor for Taylor Career. SARA will be working with Taylor Career to update books and curriculum.
Open Table: The youth team this year is from Oregon. They are hosting a fundraiser dinner at the Houston Country Club on October 21, 2011. The TCA is buying a table to support the team.
Adjournment: Next meeting will be on September 6, 2011 at Taylor Career Center. Carly Andrews made a motion to adjourn and Rachel McGee seconded the motion. The motion was passed.
